WeBuild: a supply chain of 5 companies working on 5 major projects

After completing the acquisition of 65% of Astaldi, "the most significant acquisition operation envisaged in Progetto Italia", the range of action of Webuild, the first construction group in Italy and among European leaders who count on a supply chain made up of almost 5 manufacturing companies that from the Brenner Pass to Sicily are trying to give their contribution to the country's growth in a period made even more delicate by the ongoing pandemic emergency. A construction pole in which the solidity guaranteed by Cassa depositi e prestiti (Cdp), Intesa Sanpaolo and Unicredit is decisive.

We remember that with the acquisition of 65% of Astaldi a group specialized in the construction of large complex infrastructures for sustainable mobility, hydroelectric energy, water and green buildings was born, with an order backlog of over 40 billion euros.

In this context they are the five major projects Webuild is currently working on as lead:

  • the Bicocca-Catenanuova, a section of the future Palermo-Catania,
  • Third Pass of Giovi, the line that will enhance the connection between the Ligurian port system and the main railway lines of Northern Italy and Northern Europe;
  • the Brenner Tunnel, the central element of the fast connection between Verona and Munich,
  • the Metro M4 of Milan,
  • Naples-Cancello, a section of the Naples-Bari line.

“Infrastructure under construction that damage work for 4.921 companies to be exact, of which 2.185 suppliers and 2.736 sub-suppliers for a total value of contracts equal to 4,4 billion euro. This number perfectly describes the collateral impact of a great work, one that goes beyond its functionality and its use for the citizens, and is linked to the economic well-being of the territories, to the development of the national economy and naturally to support the workforce”, underlines the company in a note.

5% of the 98 companies active in Webuild's most important Italian construction sites are represented by Italian companies. A sustainability that, from Palermo to the Brenner Pass, is expressed through sustainable mobility.

In detail, four of the five major works listed above concern thehigh-speed rail and form part of the TEN-T networks, the continental connections supported by the European Union. The fifth, the M4 of Milan, is instead the new subway line which will connect Linate airport to the center of the Lombard capital in just 15 minutes.

Among the companies participating in the Webuild supply chain are large and small companies. Standing out among them are Fagioli, specialized in the handling of maxi-products, Fratelli Gentile (which works at the Naples-Bari plant) which has patented innovative systems for the collection and management of abandoned waste along the route of the work, and Clivio srl (Brenner Base Tunnel), which has made available two patents necessary for land consolidation activities that anticipate the drilling of moles.

On the new Bicocca-Catenanuova line, today 193 companies are working together with the Webuild Group, including suppliers and sub-suppliers who have contracts for a total of 104 million euro.

On the Third Pass of the Giovi, on the other hand, 2.314 companies are at work for a total of contracts equal to 3,1 billion euros.
