Eyes on the Strait of Messina: WeBuid, which had already won the contract, would be ready

With the recent statements of Matteo Salvini which again concern the Strait of Messina bridge project, WeBuild, which had won the contract proposed by Silvio Berlusconi then canceled by Mario Monti, is awaiting information. Webuild (which was still called at that time Impregile it) was part of the Eurolink Consortium, In which 2005 won the tender, called by the State, for the general contractor. After the cancellation of the contract, obviously the road has been covered by appeals and legal battles that have yet to come to a point. The managing director of Webuild, Pietro Salini, he told Tg2 in the summer of last year that it would take him six years, prompt delivery, to build the bridge, employing 100.000 workers.

Massimo Ferrari, general manager corporate and finance of the company had said ”The realization of the Bridge over the Strait was entrusted to our Group many years ago, after 30 years of analyzes and evaluations of all kinds and an international tender that we won. It was later decided not to start the works, but investing in high-speed rail up to Palermo makes no sense without the bridge. In four months we would be ready to build”. At the end of October, Salini replied to Corriere della Sera, which asked for an opinion on the Strait. “I believe that, more generally, we need to talk about needs of the Countryand without forgetting that the South is an area where they live 25 million Italians and that the only mechanism to take care of it cannot be the CBI".
