Weather, bad weather is back in Italy: rain, cold, snow and temperatures drop up to 10 degrees. How long will it last?

There is no peace on the front weather in Italy: rain, cold and snow are back, but for how long? The first week of March promises to be very eventful with a flurry of thunderstorms ready to hit various regions, especially those of the Central and Southern Italy, and low-level snowfalls. The almost spring-like temperatures of the past few days will be a distant memory: according to the latest forecasts by the experts, a cyclone of freezing air will cause a crollo of the temperature up to 10 degrees. But how long will it last? The weather will remain unstable throughout the week, until the eve of next weekend, when the vortex is expected to move away from Italy. High pressure could conquer Italy again, bringing the sun back to most regions, but in a more winter than spring thermal context. But it is still too early to have reliable weather forecasts.

Cold and snow return to Italy: where and when?

What are the areas that will be whitened by flakes? Snow will also fall on the central Apennines and in Sardinia starting from 7-900 meters, above 1200-1400 meters in the South. A situation that will last at least until Friday 3 March. In detail, Tuesday 28 February light snow in the western Alps and in Piedmont and Wednesday 1 March rain from Emilia Romagna towards the rest of the regions. Some snow on Thursday too, but at higher altitudes: over 600-800 meters in the Alps and Northern Apennines, above 1000-1400 meters in the Central Apennines.

Weather forecast, how long will the cold last?

Tuesday February 28. In the first part of the day there will be rain in the middle Adriatic, Sardinia and western Sicily with even some thunderstorms. In the rest of Italy another very cloudy day. Between the afternoon and evening the weather will also worsen in the rest of the Center-South with scattered rains locally even moderate on the major islands, Campania, Lazio and Abruzzo. Snow from 500m between Tuscany, Umbria and Marche, over 1200-1400m in Abruzzo. Clear in the North. Temperatures rising in the South, stable elsewhere. Another Grecale storm on the upper Tyrrhenian and upper Adriatic. Rough seas, up to very rough or agitated Ligurian, Tyrrhenian, Strait of Sicily and seas of Sardinia. As far as temperatures are concerned, maximums are slightly decreasing in Sardinia, slightly increasing elsewhere. Cold in the North.

Weather Wednesday 1 March. Possible new phase of bad weather that will mostly affect the central regions with snow up to 200-400m between Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Marche and Umbria. Abundant snowfalls in the central-northern Apennines and in the Cuneo area above 500-600m.

Thursday 2 March some weak precipitation in the North. Instability between the islands and the Tyrrhenian belt. Temperatures will tend to stay cold.

In summary, March will start with the return of the great absentee, the rain, after a long period of drought in which the cold, the real one, was practically absent throughout Italy. But it could be a temporary wave of frost, to then return to a warmer climate, probably thanks also to greater interference from the anticyclone.
