Wall Street still on record, European stock exchanges on the swing

European lists are tending towards the red (apart from Madrid), while the Dow Jones has reached over 23 thousand points at the opening session – Piazza Affari closes with -0,4% weighed down by banks, Campari and Mediaset – Oil down , the Btp-Bund spread is still reduced to 163 basis points.

Closure down for Piazza Affari, -0,4%, 22.337 points, weighed down by some profit-taking and by Moody's negative opinion on the Italian banking system. Leading the declines in financials is Banca Generali, -2,88%, while on the opposite front stands A2a +0,77%. The Chamber today also approved a motion by the Democratic Party on the renewal of the Governor of the Bank of Italy (Ignazio Visco's mandate expires at the end of the month) which calls for "the most suitable figure to guarantee new trust in the Institute". The motions asking not to confirm Visco were rejected.

In this context, the Italian paper maintains its appeal: the yield on the 10-year BTP falls to 2% and the spread with the German Bund is down by 1,63%, stopping at 163.30 basis points. Different speeds for the other European price lists. Madrid rebounds, +0,59%; flat Paris -0,03% and Frankfurt -0,07%; not far from London -0,14%.

Wall Street seems less effervescent, even if the Dow Jones updates its records and reaches 23.000 points for the first time. The other lists, at the moment, are moving just above or just below parity, with Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley not attracting purchases, despite the higher-than-estimated quarterly results. Johnson & Johnson, on the other hand, was positive after the results. It disappoints Harley Davidson.

The dollar strengthens, with the market betting on a more hawkish successor to Janet Yellen at the helm of the Fed, following yesterday's meeting between US President Donald Trump and Stanford economist John Taylor.

The euro falls by 0,38% against the greenback and the cross reaches 1,175. The rush of the dollar weighs on gold, which retreats to 1284,345 dollars an ounce, -0,99%. Oil falls, with Brent down by 1,04%, 56,96 dollars a barrel.

In Piazza Affari, the big company most penalized by sales is Banca Generali, in the wake of Finecobank -1,95%. The losses are substantial for Mediaset -2,32%. Profit taken on Campari, -2,33%, after yesterday's top. Down Saipem -1,63%. Data on the European car market, colder in September, penalized Fiat, -1,47%, which also contained the drop in registrations thanks to the Alfa Romeo boom.

Purchases are poured into utilities such as Enel +0,68% and A2a. Good Stm +0,76%, Ferrari +0,41%, Moncler +0,28%. Outside the main basket, Interpump reaches its new high and closes up 4,93%. at 27,65 euros per share. The group will present its accounts on November 8, but has already received the upward revision of the 2017-2019 estimates by Kepler Cheuvreux, who confirmed the buy opinion and raised the target price from 28 to 29,5 euros, expecting strong results quarterly. Rain of purchases also for Lazio, +12,24%.
