Positive macro data out of the US continues to offset concerns about the economy. Wall Street opened higher today: Dow Jones passed the 14.500 mark for the first time ever.

Wall Street, Dow Jones record: over 14.500

For the Dow Jones today's one represents – barring a change of course – the positive tenth session. It broke the 14.500 mark for the first time ever as the S&P 500 is one step away from its October 9, 2007 record. Yesterday, the index posted its longest streak of gains since November 1996.

The reason the major US stock indexes opened higher today is that, in the US, new jobless claims are down. The news boosted investor confidence in the economic recovery even more. In addition to the subsidies, the raw index of producer prices was released today which showed an increase of 0,7% in February compared to January, in line with expectations. On an annual basis, the PPI recorded an increase of 1,7%.
