Vw: 11 million fixed-up cars, Italy is also on the move

Italy's transport ministry has launched an investigation with Volkswagen and the main approver over the diesel engine manipulation case - the company will set aside 6,5 billion euros in the third quarter to deal with the costs of the scandal.

Volkswagen admits to having rigged the emissions of 11 million vehicles diesel in the world and announces that will set aside 6,5 billion euros in the third quarter to meet the costs of the scandal. These resources will be used to finance the measures necessary to "recover customer confidence". In addition, the group will revise the profit target for the current year by the same amount. The automotive group assures in a note that "it is working intensely to eliminate" the emission discrepancies between the results of the tests conducted in the factory and the actual measurements on the road for vehicles with engines of the EA 189 type.

"Volkswagen does not tolerate any type of violation of the law in any form" and the first priority of the company board, underlines the press release, is to regain the lost trust with its customers: "The Group will keep the public informed on the further progress of the investigations in constant and transparent manner.

Meanwhile, too the Italian Ministry of Transport initiates an investigation with Volkswagen and the main type-approver on the case of manipulation of diesel engines. The ministry, explains a note, will today question both the KBA (Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt), a third party, the major homologator of the cars in question, and the manufacturer to ask whether the same offense occurred in the USA, where however different rules apply for homologation, is practiced on homologations by the same German authority for Europe and if the vehicles have been marketed in Italy. The letter addressed to the KBA expresses "concern about the incident, in relation to the protection of the environment and the possible repercussions on the vehicle approval system in force in the European Union".

La France has called for a "European-wide" inquiry after the revelation that the German automaker was installing a program on certain diesel models to cheat US anti-pollution controls. According to the French Finance Minister, Michel Sapin, an investigation "at European level" is needed to "reassure" citizens and also control other European car manufacturers

Da Brussels they take time but raise their guard. “We will go to the end”, the EU Commission announced, and again: “It is premature to say whether any specific surveillance measure is also necessary in Europe and whether Volkswagen vehicles sold in Europe have the same defect. However, we are taking this matter very seriously. We are in contact with the company and the US Environmental Agency (EPA)," announced Lucia Caudet, spokesman for the Internal Market. She who added: "For the sake of our consumers and the environment, we need to be sure that the industry scrupulously respects the limits on car emissions". The EU has convened a meeting of national motorisations.

In the middle of the day the title on the Stock Exchange of Vw loses 20,13%, after the -19% recorded yesterday at the end.
