Goodbye voucher: go-ahead from the government to abolish it

Goodbye to vouchers. The Council of Ministers today gave the green light to the decree law for the total abolition of job vouchers, thus also canceling the referendum promoted by the CGIL and already scheduled for May 28th. The vouchers will disappear definitively from 2018 January XNUMX: until then it will be possible to use those already purchased.

"We will use the next few weeks to respond to a need that the elimination of vouchers certainly does not solve, for a serious regulation of casual and occasional work", said the prime minister, Paolo Gentiloni, at the end of the government meeting.

The government has also included in the text the new rules on procurement for the reinstatement of the principle of solidarity between client and contractor, in order to also defuse the second referendum question that had been posed by the CGIL.

"Italy certainly didn't need an electoral campaign on issues like these in the coming months," Gentiloni said.

The Minister of Labour, Giuliano Poletti, echoed him: "There was no tender underway with the CGIL", indeed "now we need to reflect with the unions on casual work".

To those who asked if it was possible to go back to the past forms of occasional work (para-subordinates and the like), the minister replied that the government "does not look at those experiences, but at treasuring what is happening in the rest of Europe" .
