Voluntary disclosure: over half of the revenue comes from Lombardy

The voluntary disclosure speaks Lombard. To date, 79.258 membership applications have been presented throughout Italy and the returned capital amounts to approximately 20 billion. In early November, the government collected revenues of 3,2 billion, but expects to reach 4 billion this year. The most surprising data, however, concerns the geographical origin of the activated procedures: over half (about 40 thousand) are concentrated in Lombardy, which alone produced a revenue of 1,8 billion. These numbers emerged yesterday at the conference organized in Milan by Banca Generali entitled "Voluntary Disclosure: the state of the art of the works towards the conclusion of the procedure".

During the proceedings, Michele Muscolo, managing director of Generfid Spa, the Banca Generali Group trust company, recalled how this is the last opportunity, left to taxpayers, to regularize their tax positions in relation to capital illegally held abroad . He also underlined the goodness of the scaffolding of the law which introduced the voluntary collaboration procedure in Italy: it is the first serious attempt being made to try to create a pact between the financial administration and the taxpayer based on transparency, clarity and mutual trust .

“Times have changed – Muscolo said – and finally Italian society has understood the importance of legality. Alongside taxpayers, intermediaries, and in particular trust companies, are the main players, alongside taxpayers and their professionals, in the regularization of movable and immovable assets held abroad. The world of trust companies has undergone a metamorphosis, they have gone from being considered opaque instruments to transparent centers of excellence capable of simplifying their customers' relationship with the tax authorities and providing guarantees of solvency of the taxes to the tax authorities themselves".

Meanwhile, the Government has raised the question of trust in the decree on voluntary disclosure: Minister Maria Elena Boschi announced it today in the Chamber. The conference of group leaders who will schedule the vote for tomorrow morning.
