Volkswagen overtakes Fiat in Brazil

In Brazil, car registrations grew by 1,7% annually in the first fifteen days of August, rising to 107.567 vehicles from 105.772 a year earlier. This is what emerges from the data of Fenabrave, the Brazilian federation of the sector. Declining sales, however, for the Fiat group, which on an annual basis suffered a decline of 4,4% to 24.039 units. The market share of the Lingotto therefore decreased, reaching 22,35% from 23,78% in the first fortnight of August 2010 and from 23,77% in July 2011. In the first half of August, Fiat also lost its leadership on the Brazilian car market, which it had maintained both in the first fortnight of August 2010 and in July 2011: now the Turin company is in fact overtaken by Volkswagen, which boasts a market share of 24,53% (up respectively from 23,51% and by 22,26%).
