Volkswagen, turnaround at the top: Diess new CEO

Turnaround at the top of Volkswagen. The German Herbert Diess, former head of the Wolfsburg brand, has been appointed new CEO in place of Matthias Muller. The operation, anticipated by press rumors in recent days, is part of a broader restructuring of the top management lines of the automotive giant. Muller, in turn, had arrived in 2015, in the midst of the scandal linked to Dieselgate.

“The Volkswagen group is a collection of strong brands with great potential – said Diess – Matthias Müller has prepared the change of course and my most important task will now be to pursue and accelerate the road consistently”.

The new 59-year-old CEO has relaunched the Volkswagen brand in recent years with a cost-cutting plan that has forced him into tough confrontation with the unions. A mission that will now have to continue.

The former BMW purchasing manager will also supervise information technology to lead the group towards the new frontiers of electric cars and self-driving vehicles.
