Volkswagen: "We are not interested in Alfa Romeo"

“It is certainly no secret that Alfa Romeo is an interesting brand for us. But Volkswagen already manages twelve brands and, for the moment, that's enough“. This was stated to 'Affari Italiani' by Eric Felber, spokesman for the German car group Volkswagen, regarding the possible interest of the Wolfsburg house in the brand belonging to the Fiat group.

If the German track fades, the Japanese one dies in the bud. “It's the first time I've heard of such a thing. It's just rumors and speculation." So a Toyota spokesman, contacted by Affaritaliani.it directly at the European headquarters of the Japanese car manufacturer in Brussels, categorically denies any interest in the Alfa Romeo brand and any negotiations to that effect with Fiat. While it seems that possible buyers for Alfa Romeo with factory loads are looming - if there ever were -, the political world invites consideration of the sale hypothesis.

Stefano Saglia, PDL group leader in the Productive Activities Commission in the Chamber of Deputies, he explains: “both the Germans and the Japanese have always shown interest. Clearly the unions have to do their part. Italian workers are asked to work as hard as the Germans, certainly not like the Chinese. Don't make the mistakes of the past also because the Italian automotive industry is excellent: today there is more made in Italy on a Mercedes than on a Chrysler”.
