Volkswagen invests 11 billion in electric cars by 2024

In the next five years, between 2020 and 2024, Volkswagen will invest 19 billion euros in the car of the future. Of this amount, 11 billion will be allocated to the electric car. The German automotive giant announced it on Thursday 19 December, confirming the turnaround in industrial policy given by the group's top management in the wake of the dieselgate.

In particular, the group aims to sell one million electric cars by 2025 with the Volkswagen brand only. Next year the Wolfsburg giant will launch on the market 8 electric or hybrid models among the 34 new models presented.

As far as the financial performance is concerned, the group has confirmed that it is aiming for one operating profitability between 4 and 5 per cent for 2019, with the aim of rising to 6 per cent in 2022.

Wednesday, during the presentation of theFCA-PSA merger agreement, even the CEO of Fiat Chrysler, Mike Manley, spoke of the electric car as the "challenge of the future".
