Volkswagen, France calls for EU investigation and Winterkorn risks upheaval

France calls for a European investigation into Volkswagen and not just the German automaker. This was stated by the French Finance Minister, Michel Sapin after the scandal of the manipulation of anti-pollution controls on diesel car emissions in the USA by the German company. To "reassure citizens" added Sapin speaking on Europe1 radio, it will be "necessary" to conduct checks on other European manufacturers as well.

In Berlin, meanwhile, the time has come for redde rationem and the seat of the managing director Martin Winterkorn is faltering. Five months after the tough tug of war engaged by Ferdinand Piech against him. At the time, the chairman of the supervisory board of the automotive group accused Winterkorn of not being able to keep the company under control. So much so that he had asked for its head, also involving members of the Porsche family. Piech came out defeated and left all his posts but could now take his revenge in his capacity as the largest shareholder of Volkswagen.

In fact, on Friday Winterkorn should have obtained from the Volkswagen supervisory board confirmation of his contract - expiring at the end of 2016 - for another two years but his fate is now once again in the balance and tomorrow, Thursday, a presidium of the supervisory board will meet, emergency, just to decide on the turnaround.
