Volkswagen and Facebook: the hoax of the competition that gives away the souped-up cars

There are those who create hoaxes and those who fall for it with both feet. Alas, this is also the world of the web. And so it happens that on Facebook a totally invented content goes viral to such an extent that almost 48 people fall into the trap in less than XNUMX hours.

I'm talking about the fake page of Volkswagen Italy and the fantastic (fake) offer for the fans of the page. In a post dated October 31, at 20,20 pm, we read that the Wolfsburg group, unable to sell 800 models due to the trick on emissions, would have put the cars up for grabs to all the fans who would have followed three simple rules they are the salt of the virality of a content on Facebook:

  1. Like this scam post
  2. share the content on your personal profile,
  3. comment by writing the color of the car you would like.

After carrying out these three simple activities, the Facebook user would have entered the competition by right and on February 14th he would have offered the opportunity to win one of the cars.

If true, the case would be at least paradoxical. A company, with its credibility plummeting after the Dieselgate scandal, and with millions of cars to be returned to the parent company to eliminate the fraudulent software (here are the models involved), which is now launching a contest to reward fans of the page by giving them a car with the emissions-tweaking software on board. It would be the media death of the group.

On the other hand, unfortunately, it must be said that those 106 users who have already shared the post at 11,10 this morning, Monday 2 November, hoping that Lady Luck can give away the car with her favorite color show that the emissions scandal matters very little.

The Facebook page that launched this fake contest is called Volkswagen. Italy and has about 18 thousand fans. The author of this joke is Ermes Maiolica, a well-known author of hoaxes on the web.

UPDATES

Thirty minutes after we spread the news, the author of the hoax changed the profile image of Volkswagen Italia's fake Facebook page, removing the symbol of the Wolfsburg house, and inserting his own image. The hoax is therefore in the light of the sun. Amazing how still some people are wondering if the contest is still valid.

After the news broke, the official Facebook page of Volkswagen Italy it hastened to deny the contents of the fake page, assuring users that they have already taken action to remove the fake page as soon as possible.
