Volkswagen: global sales grow (+16,3%)

The German group sold 665 cars worldwide in July. The automaker said it will continue to grow and that the general economic weakness hasn't hit them yet.

Finally good news from the automotive sector. Volkswagen's global sales increased by 16,3% in July, more than the average of 14,4% that characterized the first seven months of the year and more than three times the global average for all automakers (5,5% ). 665.600 vehicles were sold.

“The Volkswagen Group is maintaining its growth trajectory with a strong model range,” said Christian Klingler, commercial director of the German automaker.

Good performances in emerging countries are confirmed. In China, from January to July this year, volumes increased by 16,4%, compared to the same period last year (nearly 5 million units). In Eastern Europe, vehicle deliveries grew by 28,7% compared to the first seven months of 2010. In Brazil it even passed the Fiat. The United States also reported excellent results. Sales have seen an increase of 21,4% since the beginning of the year.

These numbers cannot be compared to the less sustained growth in Europe (+10%), where hard times could lie ahead for Volkswagen. Just think about thealmost zero increase in German GDP in the second quarter of 2011. Germany, the automaker's homeland, remains one of its most important markets: for every three cars sold, one is Volkswagen.

In recent days the stock has gone into the red. Around 15.30 pm it lost 3,48% in Frankfurt.
