Volkswagen admits: “Dieselgate” also in Europe

The scandal Volkswagen it does not only concern the United States, but also Europe. The German car manufacturer itself admitted it, according to reports from the German Ministry of Transport. Furthermore, according to El Pais, more than half a million Seats – the Spanish subsidiary of Volkswagen – are equipped with the engine capable of altering exhaust emissions. According to the newspaper, the Iberian brand has sold nearly 2 million vehicles in the last six years, including 378.586 in 2014.

Starting tomorrow, Volkswagen will name those responsible for the rigged anti-smog tests on diesel cars. This is supported by two sources of the company, according to which the supervisory board of the German company will not limit itself to announcing the successor of the CEO Martin Winterkorn (who resigned yesterday and will receive a liquidation of 28,6 million euros, according to as reported by Bloomberg) but will also begin to reveal who are responsible for the technological manipulation that has tarnished the reputation of the auto giant.

Meanwhile, the hypothesis of a 50 billion dollar global class action against Volkswagen is making headway. The idea comes from Emily Maxwell, a Californian lawyer expert in consumer protection. In America there are already 25 class actions brought by owners and dealers, asking for compensation for the scandal of the rigged diesel units. The cars, in the US market, are unusable due to the strict regulations in force.
