Flights to the USA, new rules: interviews at the airport

From today the new safety rules take effect. Airlines such as Lufthansa, Emirates and Air France today kicked off security interviews with passengers about to board US-bound flights. It is advisable to arrive up to 3 hours before take-off

The rules for those traveling to the USA have changed. From today, several airlines are launching a new practice: security interviews with passengers about to board direct flights to the United States. The news concerns 325 passengers on 2 commercial lines that touch 280 airports and 105 countries. The plan is part of Washington's request to introduce more stringent controls and has already been used by national carriers such as American Airlines for a few weeks.

The list of companies that will follow this path includes Lufthansa, Emirates, Air France, Cathay Pacific and Norwegian Air. All these groups confirmed that the American authorities have asked them to tighten up controls at take-off for non-stop flights to the United States.

"Passengers bound for America will now be able to undergo brief interviews at check-in, at document control or directly at the boarding gate," a Lufthansa spokesperson said. “Why are you going to America? Do you know anyone in Miami? What is the purpose of his trip? What will be your residence?” This is the kind of question that could be asked to the traveler at check-in or boarding.

It is clear that this additional practice takes time, which is why the companies involved are sending text messages to passengers advising them to arrive at the airport earlier than usual. Even three hours in advance depending on the case.

Lufthansa plans to ask Economy class customers to report to the airport 90 minutes earlier. Cathay Pacific will also ask passengers for information before boarding and will advise arriving at least three hours before take-off.
