Il air traffic raises its head in Italy. In July, the National Civil Aviation Authority (Enav) has almost three times more flights than in June, with over 75.200 movements. The daily average stood at 2.428 flights, with a peak, recorded on 31 July, of 3.061 flights. After the collapse due to the lockdown, therefore, the growth trend of Italian air traffic is confirmed.
The difference compared to the previous month is abysmal: in June, just over 26 movements were handled, for a daily average of just 866 flights.
In detail, the 75.200 movements managed by ENAV in July are divided as follows:
- 46% international flights (arrival or departure from a foreign airport);
- 24,6% domestic flights (arrival and departure from Italian airports);
- 29,3% overflights (planes crossing Italian airspace non-stop).
Furthermore, around 40% of the traffic of 2019 was recovered last month, which, it should be remembered, was a record year for air transport in Europe and above all in Italy. June, on the other hand, ended with only 15% of the flights registered last year.
As far as future prospects are concerned, the forecasts are also positive for August, which - ENAV explains again - showed the first concrete signs as early as last Saturday and Sunday, with 3.626 and 3.508 flights respectively, for a recovery of 50% of the flown of 2019.
The progressive recovery of flights in the Italian airspace is in line with the increase recorded starting from June also in the rest of Europe and, according to Eurocontrol estimates, in August more than 50% of the traffic volumes of the 2019.
