Ryanair canceled flights, the Antitrust imposes more clarity on refunds

The Authority asked Ryanair to inform Italian consumers of the rights associated with flight cancellations both through direct communication and with information easily available on the home page of the company's website in Italian.

The Antitrust wand Ryanair. After the flight cancellations made in September and October, the Authority decided to require the company to immediately give consumers clear, transparent and immediately accessible information.

In particular, the Antitrust found that Ryanair - even after the start of the investigation - continued to disseminate "in incomplete, non-transparent and misleading ways", both on its website and in communications addressed to consumers, information on the right to compensation for Italian passengers who are entitled to it following cancellations.

A behavior which, according to the Authority, risks causing serious and irreparable damage to consumers, hindering the exercise of the right to financial compensation by consumers who have suffered considerable inconvenience due to the cancellation of flights.

For these reasons, the Antitrust has asked Ryanair to inform Italian consumers of the rights associated with flight cancellations both through direct communication and with information easily available on the home page of the company's website in Italian.

In particular, explains the Authority, the company will have to explain:

– the rights that are due to the consumer following cancellations, such as the right to a refund and/or free modification of the canceled flight and to monetary compensation, where due;

– the complete list of dates, routes and number of each canceled flight;

– the procedure to follow to request a refund, a free flight change and the pecuniary compensation due to them.

Ryanair must notify the Antitrust of the execution of the provisions of the suspension provision within 10 days of its receipt, by sending a detailed report illustrating the measures adopted.
