Vodafone Italia will experiment with 5G Milan

The development ministry has published the rankings of the best projects. Wind Tre and Open Fiber win Prato and L'Aquila, Telecom Italia-Fastweb-Huawei Bari and Matera. The other procedures are postponed to September.

Vodafone Italia for Milan, Wind Tre and Open Fiber for Prato and L'Aquila, Telecom Italia-Fastweb-Huawei Technologies Italia for Bari and Matera. These are the best projects of the public tender of 16 March relating to the experimentation of 5G in 5 cities as shown by the ranking of the examining commission published on the website of the Ministry of Economic Development.

The Mise had extended the deadlines for presenting the projects from 15 May to 12 June, with the consequence of the postponement of the further procedural phases to September. The Mise sets the deadline for identifying the projects admitted to the phase of the 5 September
negotiated procedure for each of the three areas; by 22 September instead the negotiated procedure will take place and the release of the provisional authorization for experimentation for the definitive projects by the competent Division of the Ministry, while the deadline within which the successful tenderer must send by Pec will be postponed from 25 July to 19 September “the definitive project proposals”.

A new stage therefore opens on the path towards the new 5G mobile ultra-broadband standard which opens up the boundless world of the Internet of things. 5G enhances speed and reduces latency time, with significant implications for the world of services. Vodafone had already announced 5G coverage in three major Italian cities among its 2020 goals.
