Vodafone Italy: turnover -3,9% but leap in fixed-line and fiber customers

The fiscal year ended on 31 March 2020 for Vodafone Italia, with revenues from services equal to 4,833 billion euros, with a decrease of 3,9% compared to the previous year. The British group is feeling the effects of the strong competition on mobile but conquers new positions on the fixed and fixed-mobile convergence with a real leap in fiber customers.

The red operator closed the fourth quarter with falling revenues, but an improvement on the reduction recorded in the October-December quarter of 2019 (-1,19 billion euros).

They are competitive dynamics in the mobile segment to have a greater impact on the drop in revenues, offset however by the growth in fixed services and by the performance of the low cost service of the HO Mobile Group, which is constantly improving, with almost 2 million customers at the end of March. Revenues from fixed network services amount to approx 1,208 billion of Euro (+ 8,2%).

THEEbitda was down by 6,6% compared to 2019 with 2,068 billion euros: a consequence of the reduction in the prices of mobile services, due to the regulatory decisions and the fine by the Antitrust.

Fixed network customers continue to grow, surpassing the 3milioni, of which 2,9 million in broadband, an increase of 4,3% compared to the previous year, equal to 121 thousand euros.

Customers who have opted for Vodafone fiber exceed 2 million, growth 23,8%, equal to 399 thousand customers compared to 2019.

Lastly, Vodafone can count on a growing fixed-mobile convergence in our country (+92.000 units) to approximately 1 million customers, a share which now represents 36% of the broadband customer base.

The 4.5G network, already available in 320 cities, of which 42 at 1 Gigabit per second. The coverage of the 4G network reaches approximately 7.456 municipalities, of which over 4 in 4G+.

Vodafone's fiber services reach further 23 million households and businesses, of which a third of real estate units through its own ultra broadband network and the strategic collaboration with Open Fiber.

In this regard, the agreement with OF, already in place in 271 cities, was extended to the 7.635 municipalities of the "white areas" in July, with the aim of reaching 19 million real estate units throughout the country.

During the year, the red operator, has completed 5G coverage of the top 5 cities: Milan, Bologna, Turin, Rome and Naples and completed all 41 5G use cases envisaged as part of the 5G experimentation in Milan and in the metropolitan area. Among these, for the first time in our country, the first assisted driving solutions on the 5G network and remote surgery were presented.
