Vodafone: boom in landline customers in Italy

Revenues fell by 3,5% due to mobile competition, but landline customers grew by 9,2% – Globally, the semester closed with a loss of 1,9 billion due to India but organic level, revenues and Ebitda are growing again

Vodafone: boom in landline customers in Italy

Vodafone Italia closed the half-year ended last September 30 with revenues from services equal to 2,424 billion euros, down by 3,5% compared to the same half of 2018. The performance of the half-year, the company says, "is still affected by the competitive dynamics in the mobile segment, partially offset by the growth in revenues and the fixed network customer base".

In detail, revenues from fixed network services reached 585 million euro, up 9,2% on the same period of 2018. The result was achieved thanks to the growth of landline customers, who exceeded 3 million, of which 2,8 million in broadband (+8,3%). Customers who have chosen Vodafone fiber are 1,8 million.

THEEbitda is equal to 1,006 billion euro (-3,5%).

Vodafone has announced “the launch of 5G on the commercial network in the first 5 cities: Milan and 28 municipalities of the metropolitan area, Rome, Turin, Bologna and Naples, to be followed by the first 100 Italian cities and main tourist destinations by 2021″. Also available 5G roaming for Vodafone 5G customers in Germany, Spain, Great Britain and Italy.

As regards the global resultsi, Vodafone Group ended the semester ended 30 September with one net loss equal to 1,9 billion euros mainly linked to the impact in India of the negative judgment of the Indian Supreme Court on Vodafone idea, the company specifies.

however, the group returned to growth. Increasing organic revenue, which recorded an increase of 0,4% to 21,9 billion thanks also to the positive effect deriving from the acquisition of Liberty Global's businesses in Germany and Central-Eastern Europe.

The half-year results, the company continues, "were achieved thanks to cost savings and a small increase in revenues generated by the improvement recorded in South Africa, Spain and Italy".

Growing too organic adjusted ebitda, which rose by 1,4% in the six months.

For 2020 Vodafone has revised upwards its estimates on adjusted core profit which is now indicated in a range between 14,8-15 billion euros from 13,8-14,2 billion.

Speaking of the dividend, the British company will distribute a semi-annual coupon of 4,50 euro cents, which is equivalent to 50% of the total payout expected for 2020.
