Life annuities: 1.000 euro pension for MPs. It will go to 100% of M5S and 66% of the Democratic Party

From today, Friday 15 September, 608 out of 945 MPs acquire the right to a pension - Meanwhile the Richetti law is blocked in the Senate

It was taken today the now famous annuity that annuity is not. From 15 September, the 608 parliaments elected in 2013 will be entitled to receive, upon reaching the age of 65, the additional pension of approximately 1.000 euros per month.

After months of controversy, while the Richetti law proposal is still in the Senate having already received the OK from the Chamber, the long-awaited day has therefore arrived.

Before going into the merits of the story, we underline it further: talking about annuities is improper, since the latter were abolished in 2012, with a reform that introduced the method of calculating contributions for deputies and senators, significantly reducing the treatment of parliamentarians.

Starting today, 64% of MPs (417 deputies and 191 senators) who occupy the benches of Montecitorio and Palazzo Madama have therefore accrued the right to receive the additional pension. In fact, according to the current rules, deputies, senators and regional councilors who have exercised the parliamentary mandate for at least 5 years during their career can take advantage of the pension.

Those who are elected for the first time have access to a pension at the age of 65 only if they have been seated in Parliament for at least 4 years, 6 months and 1 day from their proclamation. For each additional year of work, one has the right to accrue the pension one year earlier, but in any case the allowance cannot be received before the age of 60.

But who will benefit from these rules?

Based on calculations, today, 15 September, 88 deputies and 35 senators of the 5 Star Movement have acquired the right to a pension. In other words, all 123 five-star MPs, since none of them had been elected before 2013.

For the Democratic Party instead, there are 209 deputies in the first legislature (out of 301) e 71 senators out of 113, i.e. 66% of the total. The remaining 34%, for reasons of seniority, will benefit from a pro-rata check: a part will be calculated with the old and richest annuity until 2011; another part will instead be included in the new contribution calculation starting from 2012.
Various members of the Misto group, Forza Italia, Selezione Civica and Sinistra Italiana will also be entitled to the new pension.

The amount will be equal to just over 1.000 euros a month, therefore a high allowance, but proportionate to the salary of the parliamentarians. At a general level, the contributions paid by the senators and deputies elected in 2013 amount up to today to around 40 euros each.

Finally, it should be remembered that the discussion on will resume at Palazzo Madama next weekthe Richetti bill which acts both on the "new" and on the old annuities, i.e. those in force until 2012, providing for a retroactive recalculation with the contributory method and, for future pensions, the raising of the retirement age to 67 years, thus equating deputies and senators to all other INPS pensioners.
