This year, Rosso di Montalcino blows out 40 candles, a versatile and contemporary expression of a wine territory known throughout the world for the highly celebrated Brunello di Montalcino of which it is the younger but not second-rate brother, from which it differs mainly due to the period for release for consumption: for the Rosso no earlier than 1 September of the year following the harvest, for the Brunello no earlier than five years following the harvest and six for the Riserva version. In the past, this difference has weighed on the judgment of the market which has turned its attention to Brunello more than to Rosso.
With Red Montalcino the event dedicated to the Red of the denomination, the Rosso di Montalcino which will be held in pop version in the medieval fortress of the Tuscan village on Friday 21 Juneo the Brunello di Montalcino wine consortium aims to turn the spotlight on food and wine experts, specialists and the public on intrinsic qualities of this wine which has a lot to tell.
On June 21st, tastings with 67 producers and workshops on development and sales prospects
“Red Montalcino – he declared Fabrizio Bindocci, president of the Consortium – wants to mark the beginning of a path of growth and valorisation of Rosso di Montalcino. The desire of the producers is in fact to raise the bar more and more and make great red wines, be they Brunello or Rosso di Montalcino. The latter, in particular, is enjoying considerable success abroad due to its pleasantness and versatility in combinations. We must give him the space he deserves."
To open the program of the event, "Red Evolution: origins and future of Rosso di Montalcino", the talk moderated by Barbara Di Fresco in the Cloister of Sant'Agostino which through the voices of Enzo Tiezzi, Andrea Costanti and Francesco Ripaccioli retraces the first forty years of the denomination and takes stock of the prospects and new trends of an identifying product for a look that looks from the past to the future of the DOC.
At 18pm the Fortezza also opens its doors to wine enthusiasts for the usual walk around tasting with 68 companies. We continue with the opening of the food corners offering regional, vegan and fusion gastronomic specialties (20pm), the collective wine shop with sommelier service and the mixology area with local products (22pm). To close Red Montalcino under the stars, the DJ set by Jay Carol Gigli of the Jas&Jay duo.
