Wine, historic record for sparkling wine exports

Sales of Italian sparkling wine abroad set a historical record in 2017, reaching the figure of 1,3 billion euros, with a 14% increase in value compared to the previous year. This is what emerges from an analysis by Coldiretti on the basis of a projection on Istat data relating to foreign trade, disseminated with reference to the final balance for the year 2017 provided by the Economic Observatory of Italian Effervescent Sparkling Wines (OVSE).

Outside national borders - underlines Coldiretti - the most passionate consumers are the British who do not seem to have been discouraged by Brexit and in 2017 are the first world market for Italian sparkling wine with the value of exported bottles registering an increase 12% far ahead of the United States, which in any case grow by 15% while Germany (+8%) is in a more secluded position on the podium. In the ranking of the favorite Italian bubbles in the world there are among others Prosecco, Asti and Franciacorta which now challenge the prestigious French Champagne on an equal footing.

Despite this - underlines Coldiretti - the average price differential per bottle is still very high compared to transalpine bubbles, which have much higher average prices. To weigh is the fact that, with the success - continues Coldiretti -, also the imitations grow in all continents starting from Europe where bottles of Kressecco and Meer-Secco produced in Germany are on sale which clearly recall the Italian Prosecco which is even sold loose on tap in English pubs.
