Wine, virtual tasting is reality: Brunello di Montalcino pioneer

Wine enters the digital age. On the occasion of the Welcome Brunello 2020 week, the historic Tuscan winery Ciacci Piccolomini D'Aragona kicks off the first interactive virtual tasting in collaboration with Microsoft Teams and Si-Net. The tasting, broadcast from the Microsoft House in Milan on February 18, was guided live by the Montalcino estate, where all the organoleptic characteristics of the new wines, the history and specifics of the territory were highlighted. Initiative thanks to which customers and operators in the wine world have been able to discover new ones Rosso di Montalcino DOC, Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Annata and Brunello di Montalcino DOCG Pianrosso, as well as the relaunch of 385, born from the collaboration with Tenuta Fertuna and the Meregalli family.

An experiment that, thanks to the technology of Microsoft Teams and strategic consultancy by Si-Net, has made it possible to break down all distances and isolation problems, where communication and interaction have never been so easy, also opening up new opportunities for the more traditional Made in Italy sectors. In this scenario, Teams turns out to be a valid ally thanks to its great success, not only in Italy but also globally, where it is present in 181 markets with over 20 million active users per day and more than 500 organizations that use it. use.

An avant-garde experience that has had a large consensus, so much so that the Tuscan company aims to replicate it also in the rest of the world and introduce Digital Wine Tasting as a new expansion model, optimizing times and reducing costs. Since the Montalcino company realizes the majority of its turnover with foreign sales (about 80%), of which only 30% in the USA, the use of Teams will make it easier to reach consumers from all over the world, bringing people closer to wine and guiding them in their choice.

The adoption of Teams by Ciacci Piccolomini D'Aragona is part of a much larger digital transformation project that has chosen to focus on Microsoft Cloud Computing, and with the strategic support of Si-Net, the mail service was migrated on the Office 365 platform. In fact, messaging and video-conferencing tools allow for a new model of interaction with all wine enthusiasts, also having a strong impact on the efficiency and competitiveness of the winery.

An innovation that has allowed the company not only to enhance individual productivity, but also to innovate the way employees collaborate. So much so that all company areas can now take advantage of Microsoft solutions from various devices, as well as from the computer, to respond to any need, from reservations, to visits to the cellar, to billing.

Initiative in which the Tuscan winery becomes the protagonist of a much larger project led by the giant of Bill Gates “Italy ambition for SMEs: stories of digital innovation and Made in Italy”, with the aim of promoting digital culture and contributing to the innovation and growth of Italian small and medium-sized enterprises.

The innovation of such a traditional sector for our country, still linked to a face-to-face market, could be a way not only to increase the competitiveness of the territory, but also to make our food and wine excellence known all over the world .
