Wine: Bortolomiol from Valdobbiadene to Montalcino with Giuliano's Secret

From the vineyards of Valdobbiadene to those of Montalcino, from white to red. Maria Elena, Elvira, Luisa and Giuliana Bortolomiol, daughters of the founder of the famous winery and today owners of Bortolomiol, one of the 'titled' companies of Prosecco di Valdobbiadene pay homage to their father Giuliano who died ten years ago, realizing a dream that he failed to materialize, a quality Tuscan red. Many years later today that dream comes true: the Bortolomiol sisters have in fact chosen to invest in Tuscany in a vineyard on the border with the renowned Brunello area in the shadow of the medieval CastelVerdelli and the first vintage of the Il Julian's secret, limited edition 2016 in just 2.675 bottles, a Sangiovese with an authentic character aged for a year in French oak barriques signed by Roberto Cipresso which was presented in Rome to journalists and industry experts.

Giuliano Bortolomiol, tireless researcher graduated from the wine school of Conegliano, who founded the winery in the 40s even if the family tradition has been handed down since 1760, he was a real pioneer in the world of Prosecco Superiore and was the first, in the 60s, to make sparkling wine Prosecco in brut version anticipating what are today the international trends of this bubble..

But Bortolomiol's father was also in love with Tuscany and in his many travels, he dreamed of producing red wines in this fascinating land, full of history and culture.

"This wine is a great journey - he says Elvira Bortolomiol, Vice President - with my sisters a few years ago we found some notebooks of our father, among the annotations also the memories of Tuscany, where we always spent the summer holidays. Among the notes of the great reds of this land is also the dream, one day, of including a red berried label in the collection… This project is born here".

The 2016 vintage bears the signature of winemaker Roberto Cipresso that tells: “We are facing a champion, a Sangiovese endowed with freshness and with an unmistakable balsamic note accompanied by hints of tobacco and a refined sweet spice. The aging potential is considerable, but Il Segreto di Giuliano already today guarantees a good drinkability characterized by extreme pleasantness. All completed by a harmony and balance that make it a wine worthy of its inspiration”.

Elvira, Maria Elena, Giuliana and Luisa Bortolomiol, carry on the family tradition with commitment and passion, from the continuous technological investments to the control of the entire production process. Supported by the team of winemakers led by Robert Cypress, the Bortolomiol sisters focus on sustainable projects that safeguard man and the earth.

For these reasons, two hectares of vineyards are cultivated with the organic method from which Ius Naturae Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG Biologico is born, the natural consequence of the production philosophy of the Bortolomiol family, which has always been attentive to practicing sustainable and environmentally friendly viticulture. During the harvest time, two whole days are completely dedicated to harvesting these grapes to ensure absolute control over the quality values and optimal ripening.

"The attention and care for the environment and the vineyard are indicators of a social responsibility of the territory - says Elvira - which the Bortolomiol family also wanted to extend to all the suppliers through the Green Mark project, an internal protocol born in 2011 which, through a series of indications and techniques that the bestowers choose to follow, aims to improve the management of vineyards and grapes with minimal environmental impact and an increasingly eco-sustainable approach".

Finally, being a company in pink, particular attention to the world of women could not be missing. For this reason, the company has recovered and restored the old spinning mill in the center of Valdobbiadene, inside the Parco della Filandetta – Art & Wine Farm. The history of spinning mills and that of wine production has been intertwined in this area throughout the last century. Today, the building has been restored and converted into a large tasting room, in honor of all the women who have lived and worked here in the past
