Extreme Wines: three days of selections for the World Cup in Val d'Aosta in July

Restart also for heroic wines: from 15 to 17 July in Valle d'Aosta the selections of the wines participating in the 29th edition of the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes, the competition that selects the best wines resulting from extreme viticulture with the aim of promoting and safeguarding the productions of small wine-growing areas that are characterized by history, tradition and uniqueness, of great environmental and landscape value where mainly native vines are grown.

All wines produced from grapes of vineyards which have at least one of the following permanent structural difficulties: Altitude above 500 m above sea level., with the exception of the viticultural systems in the plateau; Ground slopes greater than 30%; Viticultural systems on terraces or steps; Viticulture of small islands.

The participation form must be completed by 30 June, online on website. The participating companies will have to send the wine samples starting from May 25th and by July 5th.

The competition has been promoting awareness of what can be defined as authentic for years “islands of viticultural biodiversity” which, however, run the risk of disappearing due to the high costs of production and construction of vineyards (the cultivation and construction of a vineyard in these areas costs ten times more than a vineyard in the plains). Realities that come from twenty-six countries, including some non-European countries such as: Armenia, Chile, China, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Israel, Lebanon and Turkey.

To select the wines, expert tasters from all over the world gather in commissions made up of 5 tasters each, who, using a special computer system, used for the first time in Italy at the Cervim competition, evaluate the different wines, divided into 9 different categories, expressing a judgment, initially single based on colour, clarity, smell and taste, which added together give rise to the final judgment.

The peculiarity of the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes mainly due to the variety of wines for tasting, mostly produced from native vines, characterized by unique terroirs that particularly mark the aromas and flavors and which make the Mondial des Vins Extrêmes unique in the panorama of competitions world wine producers, attracts the interest of experts who apply every year to participate in the July selections.

The wines presented are divided into 9 categories:
