Travel to Japan: yes to foreign tourists after two years of closure, but with strict rules

After more than two years of closure, starting from June 10, travel to Japan will start again. The Japanese government reopens to foreign tourists, unable to enter since the Covid-19 pandemic exploded. The announcement came directly from Prime Minister Fumio Kishida who explained that the country is easing the measures introduced to contain the spread of the virus.

There will be some strict rules to be respected: you must always wear a mask, it will be mandatory to take out private medical insurance, but above all nobody will travel alone: visitors must be accompanied by a guide throughout their stay.

"Tour guides should frequently remind tour participants of necessary infection prevention measures, including wearing and removing masks, at each stage of the trip," the Japan Tourism Agency (JTA) said in its statement. guidelines.

Once the documentation has been accepted (which also includes the visa, as for business and study trips), Italy re-enters the group "blue" (reduced restrictions by country/region "yellow" e "red"), upon entry into the country, only a PCR test will be required to be carried out 72 hours before departure. No certificate of vaccination, quarantine or further on-site PCR testing will be required. More information for traveling to Japan can be found on MOFA website, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Already in May, Japan conducted 'trial tour' carried out by groups of about 50 people, most of them travel agents, but despite all the precautions one of the participants tested positive for Covid.

The easing of restrictions represents an attempt to restart the tourism sector, currently in deep crisis and until a few years ago fundamental for the Japanese economy. Suffice it to say that in 2019 it hosted 31,9 million foreign visitors, who spent 4,81 trillion yen ($36,28 billion).
