Green light from the Senate: Padoan new president of Istat

The Constitutional Affairs commission of the Senate has given the green light to the appointment of Pietro Carlo Padoan as president of Istat. The news was reported by Senators Corradino Mineo of the Democratic Party and Andrea Augelo of the Ncd. The chief economist of the OECD, after the block on the appointment immediately during the previous vote, received 20 votes in favour, two against and a blank ballot, thus overcoming the obstacle of the qualified majority that had blocked him on 16 January.

Padoan will succeed the current Minister of Labor Enrico Giovannini at the helm of the Institute of Statistics.
