Green light to the electricity research plan: 200 million euros for renewables and transport networks by 2024

Decarbonisation and digitalisation are the two directions along which the piano di electricity research Italian. The energy crisis gives the plan for the national electricity system a decisive role for everything that is useful for reducing the cost of electricity for end users. The green light to the plan was given with i implementing decrees signed in these end-of-year days by the Minister of the Environment. By 2024 they will be spent 195,5 million euro under the coordination of the Ministry itself. At the decarbonization 105,30 million are earmarked for renewables. At the digitization 90,20 million for new network applications. Everything fits into the general objectives of the National Energy and Climate Plan (PNIEC) and of the PNRR and has as a prerequisite the adjustment of the national electricity grid. If it is really possible to reduce the cost of the bill, a good step forward will have been taken towards that mix of energy sources that accompany the Italian transition.

The electricity plan to be completed by 2024

How is the Plan implemented? Through program agreements with Enea, Cnr and Rse who will put their skills into play also for reduce the environmental impact of power lines, technical equipment and improve system reliability and service quality. In this way, Italy should reach a level of energy security that protects it from economic or extraordinary phenomena such as those of 2022. The research - explains the Ministry - is financed through the "Fund for the financing of research and development of general interest for the national electricity system” set up at the Energy and Environmental Services Fund (CSEA). The money in particular comes from the proceeds of the component A5 of the electricity tariff. The amount of this component is established periodically by the Regulatory Authority for Energy, Networks and the Environment (ARERA).

With 200 million euros it will improve the quality of the electricity service?

In 2021 in Italy they were consumed 300 terawatt hours of electricity with a +6% on 2020. Not all the energy reaching households and businesses has benefited from cutting-edge equipment, programs and technologies.

The research plan should optimize the 86% of electricity that the country produces independently. Unfortunately, there are still hundreds of power outages, with or without warning, on the grid every year, documented from the Arera. The intervention plans on which the partners of the Ministry will work must also contain the solutions to this type of drawbacks which affect the quality of the service.

The other side of the coin is of strong social interest tariff containment which they determined factors imbalance on the electricity market. The general interest is that money is well invested in these decisive years for the development of renewable sources and the protection of the environment from inappropriate elements.
