EU summit: decisions on banking union postponed to December

EU summit: decisions on banking union postponed to December

Nothing new on the banking union and, as far as was leaked during the night, in particular as regards the commitment to be defined and communicated on public financial parachutes for the banks ('backstop'). At the next meeting in December, it will be necessary to find an agreement on all fronts, including the rules on bank resolution and the role of the European Stability Mechanism in recapitalisations.

Prime Minister Enrico Letta spoke of "another step forward" taken by the Summit, albeit a small one. For French President Francois Hollande there was "a confirmation and a commitment: the banking union is now irreversible".
