Versalis (Eni) and BTS, agreement for biogas and biomethane plants

Versalis and BTS Biogas together for the joint development of an innovative technology for the production of biogas and biomethane from lignocellulosic biomass

Versalis (Eni) and BTS, agreement for biogas and biomethane plants

Versalis, Eni's chemical company, and BTS Biogas, an Italian company active in the sector of design and construction of biogas production plants, have signed an agreement to develop and commercialize an innovative technology for the production of biogas and biomethane from residual lignocellulosic biomass.

This technology will be based on the integration of Versalis proprietary technology for the thermomechanical pre-treatment of biomass, with BTS Biogas technology for the production of biogas and biomethane by fermentation.

BTS Biogas possesses the know-how for the production of biogas and biomethane from different types of biomass and the research and development infrastructures suitable for the evaluation on an experimental basis of the related processability and yields. Versalis, in the broader strategy of decarbonization of Eni, has launched a transformation plan that aims to make its activities and products increasingly diversified and its contribution in terms of technological development contributes to developing increasingly sustainable industrial solutions.

The main advantage of the collaboration between Versalis and BTS Biogas is that of allowing, thanks to the new technology, the production of biogas and advanced biomethane with high yields starting from residual lignocellulosic biomass, thus contributing to the large-scale development of the production of biomethane advanced with reduced greenhouse gas emissions e without impact agronomic.
