Versalis, Eni's chemical subsidiary, enters South Korea and opens a new plant. To inaugurate it, CEO Daniele Ferrari flew to Yeosu. Versalis is already present in the Asia-Pacific region with commercial offices in Shanghai, Qingdao, Mumbai and Singapore.

The new plants of Lotte Versalis Elastomers, a 26/XNUMX joint venture between Versalis (Eni), global leader in the elastomers sector, and Lotte Chemical, a major petrochemical company based in South Korea, were built in the record time of XNUMX months, in compliance of the principles of sustainability thanks to the adoption of the most advanced European technological standards. "This important result - states a press release from the Eni group - is part of Eni's strategy to relaunch chemicals also through international development".

The joint venture, founded in 2013 to respond to the growth of the elastomer market in Asia, uses the technologies, industrial skills and sales network of Versalis, as well as the integration with the site of Lotte Chemical, which provides raw materials and industrial services.

The industrial complex has a nominal capacity of 200 thousand tons / year of elastomers (EPDM, ethylene-propylene-diene rubber, s-SBR, butadiene-styrene rubber in solution, BR, polybutadiene rubber). Production streams are designed for applications premium, mainly for tires and other components automotive, modification of styrene polymers and technical articles.

“The construction of the first industrial complex in Asia is a fundamental step in Versalis' international development strategy, which exploits highly valuable proprietary technologies. It also strengthens our leading position in the global elastomer market and the development of further prospects. It is exciting to carry on this project together with a consolidated partner such as Lotte Chemical, with whom we have joined forces and made the most of synergies” commented Daniele Ferrari, CEO of Versalis.
