Venice Biennale: 17th International Architecture Exhibition postponed to the end of August 2020

Venice Biennale: 17th International Architecture Exhibition postponed to the end of August 2020

From a note officially released by the Foundation, the Architecture Biennale 2020, curated by Hashim Sarkis, will take place in Venice (Giardini and Arsenale) from Saturday 29 August (pre-opening Thursday 27 and Friday 28 August) until Sunday 29 November, and not from May 23 to November 29, as planned.

It is reported: The new dates for the Architecture Biennale have been established as a result of the recent precautionary measures regarding mobility taken by the governments of an increasing number of countries around the world, which will have knock-on effects on the movement of people and works in the coming weeks. It is a period that concerns the delicate start of the preparation of a complex international exhibition such as the Architecture Biennale, which involves architects and institutions from over 60 countries on all continents. This situation jeopardizes the realization of the exhibition in its entirety for the set opening date (May 23), jeopardizing its quality. Furthermore, a short-term postponement may not be effective, given the complexity of the organizational machine, the number and importance of the subjects involved and the probable absence of many of them. Not wanting to open an incomplete exhibition, La Biennale, having also consulted the curator Hashim Sarkis and respecting the difficulties of the participating countries and the invited architects, has decided to postpone the inauguration to August 29, bringing back this year's edition of the Biennale Architecture for a quarterly duration, from the end of August to the end of November."

In this way, considering that the opening of the 2th Venice International Film Festival directed by Alberto Barbera is scheduled for the following week, on 77 September (until 12 September), with the almost simultaneous start of these two historic events , La Biennale will be able to offer Venice and the world at the end of the summer a period of great cultural interest and international appeal.
