Venice – Peggy Guggenheim Foundation, a fascinating story: Jackson and Charles Pollock

Jackson Pollock, mural. Energy made visible leads for the first time to Italy and Venice "the leviathan", as the New York Times, mural (over 6 meters long by 2,5 high), created by Pollock in the summer of 1943 for Peggy's New York apartment, the focal point of an exhibition that intends to reinterpret its founding role in American art, and beyond , of the XNUMXth century. “An epic work”, defines it Guardian, which is related by the curator of the exhibition David Anfam with the American mural painting of the 40s, and with the "action photographs" of those years. Exhibited next to mural photographs and photographic experiments by Gjon Mili, Barbara Morgan, Aaron Siskind, Herbert Matter, friends of Pollock, as well as another gigantic masterpiece, by Robert Motherwell, Elegy for the Spanish Republic n. 126, e Alchemy, also by Jackson Pollock, back from an important 18-month conservation intervention at the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence. 

Also not to be missed is the first and most comprehensive retrospective ever made, dedicated to the older brother of the genius of American Abstract Expressionism, Charles Pollock. “A fascinating story”, he defined it Republic, which through over 100 works, including unpublished documents from the Charles Pollock Archive in Paris, traces Charles's long-lasting career, which ranged from "regionalism" to "color-field", presenting at the same time, in an intimate and private key, the relationships between members of the Pollock family.

Furthermore, the preparation of the multimedia itinerary of the exhibition continues in the temporary rooms of the museum Alchemy by Jackson Pollock. Journey inside matter, which allows visitors to retrace the conservation phases of Alchemy. Touch-screen, video and a 3D reproduction of the work bring to life the incredible journey inside the material.
