US sales: FCA record, disappoints General Motors

New sales record for FCA Us which confirms the positive trend inaugurated six years ago in the United States: after the excellent result in February, the Detroit giant recorded an 8% increase in registrations in March, going from 197.261 cars sold in the same period of 2015 to 213.187 in 2016. A figure that is configured as the best March in ten years, i.e. since 2006.

The results are communicated by the same company, part of the FCA group, which underlines the progress, on a monthly basis, of the Jeep, Dodge and Ram Truck brands.

Going into detail, eight models were the most successful in the American market, among which the leadership of the Jeep Compass stands out: "The strong sales of Jeep and Ram - commented Reid Bigland, sales manager for the United States - enabled us to kick-start the all-important spring sales period and achieve a total of six consecutive years of monthly sales increases.” The manager also underlined a change in consumer preferences, more inclined to buy in the SUV and truck segments of the FCA range.

Speaking of individual brands: Chrysler's registrations fell by 13% (from 30.038 to 26.236 units; -20% to 65.506 in the first three months), Dodge's increased by 11%, (best March since 2014); Jeep's rose 15%, and Ram's rose 11%, the best March in 12 years. As for Fiat, 3.422 vehicles were sold, 24% less than the 4.494 of the same period last year (-18% to 9.009 units in the first three months.

Remaining in the automotive sector, today not only the results of FCA Us were published, but also those of General Motors. The American giant disappointed analysts' expectations, putting in place an increase of 0,9% to 252.128 cars against an expectation of +1,8%. Chevrolet's registrations were up 1,4%, Buick's were down 11,4%, GMC's were up 6,9%, while Cadillac's were down, according to the company note. by 5,1%.

Ford also did very well, recording the best March and the best first quarter of the last 10 years. Specifically, the automaker sold 254.711 cars in the United States, a figure that represents an increase of 8% compared to the corresponding month of 2015. Looking at the first quarter, sales rose 9% to 645.626 cars. The growth was driven by the sale of SUVs: up 13% in March and 15% in the first three months of the year (archiving the best quarter ever).
