The collapse in oil is depressing the ruble and the tenge – The Russian currency is at a six-month low, the Kazakh one at an all-time low – Political reasons instead for the depreciation of the Turkish lira.

Currencies: Russia, Türkiye and Kazakhstan collapse

Still heavy drops for the currencies of Russia, Kazakhstan and Türkiye. In the first two cases, the depreciation is caused by the collapse of oil (Wti at 40,66 $/b, down 1,5%), the main source of revenue for both countries.

We now need 75 rubles for one euro and 67,4 for one dollar. These are the lowest levels for six months.

In Kazakhstan, however, the Central Bank was forced to release the local currency, the Tenge:, from the fixed relationship with the dollar and the result was a devaluation of 22% in the space of a few hours, down to a record low of 256,98 tenge to the dollar.

As for Turkey, in this case the currency crisis is determined by reasons mainly policies and security. After having already lost 27% year-to-date and 10% in the last month, today the Turkish lira hit a new all-time low at 3,0031 to the dollar. The exchange rate then adjusted slightly to 2,97. To buy one euro, on the other hand, you need 3,32 Turkish lira.
