Vaccines in July: uncertainty about doses, rain of postponements

La shortage of vaccines puts some regions in crisis. In Puglia new bookings have been blocked and many appointments already made will probably have to be postponed. Lazio, Toscana ed Emilia Romagna have already blocked the portals throughout July, while the Campania he won't be summoning any more people next month. L'Umbria, however, he made it known that he will focus only on the second doses. But that's not all: the vaccination plan is also at risk in Italy Lombardia and, in general, there is no area of the country where there are no difficulties.

The Italian countryside is increasingly Pfizer-dependent and the drop in deliveries expected for July is bound to take its toll. The governors have asked General Figliuolo to provide them with a precise picture of the vials arriving and it is probable that the presidents and the commissioner will meet on Thursday to take stock.

To date, the data provided to the Regions by the commissioner structure indicate "a 35-40% drop in doses compared to June”, said the councilor for health of Lazio, Alessio D'Amato.

“We already had all our agendas full for July, so we won't be able to take new bookings – explains the councilor for health of Puglia, Pier Luigi Lopalco – We also have to remodulate many bookings, between 3 and 400 thousand. We will try to move the appointments of those under 50 ”.

Last week, however, Figliuolo had issued a statement in which he announced that 14,5 million doses would arrive in July, i.e. only 5% less than in June. If this were the case, no Region would have difficulty continuing the vaccination campaign as planned.

Meanwhile, Lazio will move the vaccinations of the 12-16 age group forward, will no longer take bookings for July and will probably postpone 100 appointments already made for next month.

Two other particular cases are those of Liguria and Sicily, where the drop in demand means that even a possible drop in supplies does not risk causing particular consequences.
