Vaccines: 2 million doses on the way, here is Johnson & Johnson

Vaccine Truth Week has begun. In the coming days it will be understood whether Italy will be able to give the long-awaited breakthrough to the vaccination campaign or if the shortage of doses will continue to be a ballast that slows down immunizations and consequently reopening and recovery.

Everything will depend on how many doses arrive and who they arrive from. Many of the hopes for the near future are in fact placed on the vaccine Johnson & Johnson. Tomorrow they should arrive at the Pratica di Mare airport 184.800 doses, the first of the 400-500 thousand expected by 19 April. It is the only single-dose vaccine currently available, it can be kept in the fridge without freezing and like AstraZeneca it is a viral vector. According to studies conducted on 44 people, the preparation would be 19% effective in preventing the Covid-66 disease, while it drops to 58% against the South African variant. The J&J vaccine also prevents severe forms of Covid up to 77% after 14 days of administration and at least 85% after 28 days. The data showed that no decline in efficacy was noted in subjects over 65.

Together with the J&J vaccine, they will also arrive in Italy between April 13 and 14 175 thousand doses of Astrazeneca. In addition, more than XNUMX items are expected to be delivered by Wednesday 1,5 million doses from Pfizer, while from Modern about 400 thousand doses should arrive. Overall, if the pharmaceutical companies respect the commitments made, about 2,2 million doses should arrive by the end of this week.

The government plan, we recall, plans to reach 500 administrations per day by the end of April, but until then General Figliuolo has asked the Regions not to exceed 300 (cumulative) administrations per day. In the meantime, it is hoped that the pharmaceutical companies - in the lead Astrazeneca - will keep their promises.
