America is still not recovering from the crisis. Analysts had forecast a 0,2% increase in retail sales in June. However, the US Commerce Department has once again released negative data: -0,5%. This is the third consecutive contraction
It is the first time since 2008 that the figure has been down for three months in a row. In May, the sales they fell by 0,2 per cent (unchanged compared to the first estimate).
Consumer spending represents a large part, about 70%, of the gross domestic product of the United States, which in turn is a thermometer of the country's economic performance. Also down sales of cars and components, down by 0,6% in June. Excluding the auto sector, the sales they fell 0,4% after declining 0,4% the previous month.
Le sales of petrol at service stations fell by 1,8%, which reflects a reduction in fuel prices (an element considered encouraging because it should encourage consumers to spend in other sectors).
