USA, shooting: a deputy injured

Steve Scalise, leader of the Republicans in the US House, was shot in the hip during a drive-by shooting at a baseball field in Alexandria, Virginia, near Washington. According to what has been reconstructed so far by the US media, one person - who would have fired a rifle - would have been stopped: he is a white man. At the moment the hypothesis of terrorism is excluded. Other deputies were present on the field, but according to what was declared by a parliamentarian, Brooks, on CNN, they would be safe. An assistant of Scalise was also shot in the shooting, while the other two injured could be two policemen.

The shooting happened around 7.15 in the morning. The Republicans practice for the Congressional Baseball Game was underway, the traditional baseball game - scheduled for June 15 at the National Park - which sees members of the House and Senate of both parties oppose each other, each playing in the uniforms of their chosen state.

"It was a deliberate attack," explain investigative sources cited by the US media. Alexandria Police tweeted that the suspect in the shooting has been apprehended although witnesses claim the gunman was shot. Steve Scalise is in stable condition at George Washington University Hospital: a staff member of him used a belt as a tourniquet to stop the bleeding. According to White House spokesman Sean Spicer via Twitter, President Donald Trump was immediately informed of what happened "and is following developments in the situation".
