Get better in May American consumer confidence: the index measured by the University of Michigan rose to 77,8 points, from 76,4 the previous month.
Instead, they come by surprise producer prices, which in April recorded a drop of 0,2% against expectations for an unchanged figure. The core version, i.e excluding the more volatile components such as food and energy, it rose by 0,2%, in line with expectations.
The trend of the index was affected during the month by energy prices which fell by 1,4%. On an annual basis, the rise in April was 1,9%, the lowest trend increase since 'October 2009. The data signals the lack of inflationary pressures and could leave more room for the Fed to act in support of the economy.
