The US Secretary of State and the head of Iranian diplomacy have shaken hands at the UN: Mohammad Javad Zarif hopes to be able to reach an international agreement on his nuclear program within a year.

At the end of a historic meeting at the UN headquarters, Iran said it hoped to be able to reach an international agreement on its nuclear program within a year.

Iranian Diplomacy Chief Mohammad Javad Zarif and US Secretary of State John Kerry shook hands and they had a brief exchange yesterday afternoon on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.

The two agreed to resume negotiations on October 15 in Geneva, declaring themselves very satisfied but specifying that "there is still a lot of work to do".
