The manufacturing PMI measured by Markit rose to 58 points in August from 55,8 in July. This is the highest level in over four years, since April 2010 to be exact. Both production and orders grew more than expected, while exports reached their three-year highs.
Any data above 50 points indicates a phase of expansion of economic activities, thus denoting an expansion of the manufacturing sector, despite the slowdown recorded in the EU and the slowdown in manufacturing in China (they too, however, above the 50 threshold).
