The American consumer confidence index fell to 60,6 points in August, against 65,4 in July. The figure - released by the Conference Board - is the worst for nine months, decidedly lower than the estimates of analysts, who had even predicted an increase to 65,7 points.

The indicator of expectations for the economic trend in the medium term worsened from 78,4 to 70,5 points, while the opinion on the current situation remained almost unchanged, passing from 45,9 to 45,8 points.
