USA and UK: no tablets and PCs on flights from 6 countries

After the United States, Great Britain also introduces a ban on bringing laptops into the cabin. The ban, according to the media, concerns direct flights to the United Kingdom arriving from six countries: Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. Canada is also considering introducing similar restrictions.

“We are evaluating the information that has been provided to us”, said the Canadian Minister of Transport Marc Garneau, while specifying that at the moment “there are still no precise times. But we are working expeditiously ”.

The decision to ban PCs and iPads in the cabin on flights to the USA from a dozen countries in North Africa and the Middle East is "necessary and proportionate to the threats" given the intelligence information available. This was underlined by White House spokesman Sean Spicer when answering questions from journalists, without however going into details. “An appropriate step given the intelligence information,” Sipcer said.

The restrictions introduced by the United States first and then also by London, which prohibit PCs and iPads in the cabin on flights from some countries in North Africa and the Middle East, concern 14 airlines, six of these are based in both the United States and the United Kingdom , according to reports from CNN. These are therefore British Airways, EasyJet, Jet2.com, Monarch, Thomas Cook, Thomson, Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airways, Atlas-Global Airlines, Middle East Airlines, Egyptair, Royal Jordanian, Tunis Air and Saudia. There are also some differences on the application of the ban by the authorities in Washington and London, for example they concern different 'starting points': for direct flights to the United Kingdom, the measure affects those from Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Tunisia and Saudi Arabia. Saudi Arabia. But some airports affected by the American ban - Abu Dhabi and Dubai, Doha, Kuwait City and Casablanca - are not affected by the restrictions imposed by the British authorities.
