Last week, US workers filing for the first jobless benefits rose by 8 to 339, while analysts expected a drop to 330. The previous week's figure remained unchanged at 331. The numbers were released today by the US Department of Labor. 

The four-week average, more reliable as it is not subject to market fluctuations, grew by 250 units to 334. The figure remains below 400.000 units, a threshold which according to analysts signals a stalemate.

The total number of workers who received unemployment benefits for more than a week – relating to the week ending 18 February, the last for which data is available – dropped by 2.953.000 to XNUMX.
