For the week ending Nov. 10, new benefits were revised up by 90.000 to 451.000. During the reporting period, more than 75.000 people requested assistance in New York and New Jersey states, which were among the hardest hit by Hurricane Sandy.

The average over the past four weeks, a more reliable indicator, rose by 9.500 units to 396.250. The spotlight is now on the November unemployment data, which will show Sandy's impact on the labor market, expected on December 7th.
