Usa, BNP to fine from 8-9 billion dollars

A maxi-fine of between eight and nine billion dollars. This is how much Bnp Paribas should pay to close an investigation launched by the US authorities into the alleged illegal activities of the French banking giant. The agreement on the very expensive plea deal is now in the pipeline, as reported by various sources quoted by the international press.

In recent weeks, the Wall Street Journal was the first to spread the news of a potential agreement, speaking of a fine of less than 10 billion dollars. BNP is accused of violating the sanctions imposed by the United States on some countries between 2002 and 2009.

The US authorities are also trying to understand if the French Bank has eliminated the information that allows the identification of some bank transfers so as not to trigger alarm signals on the transactions in question.

Bnp Paribas and the US authorities have been negotiating almost every day for weeks. Documents on suspicious operations in violation of sanctions against Sudan, Iran and Cuba totaling more than $100 billion were examined. The settlement could include a felony guilty plea by BNP Paribas for violating the International Emergency Economic Powers Act.
